LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Two Michigan hunters have been jailed and fined for exceeding the limit on redhead ducks.
The state Department of Natural Resources says 22-year-old Travis Vennix and 22-year-old Timothy Diehl, both of Kawkawlin, admitted shooting 20 of the ducks last month in Arenac County. The bag limit for redheads is two per hunter.
The agency says another hunter blew the whistle on the defendants, who hid a stringer of redheads beneath a boat dock while a DNR conservation officer was checking up on waterfowl hunters.
Vennix and Diehl were sentenced last week to five days in jail and ordered to pay $4,000 each in restitution to the Game and Fish Protection Fund and $625 each in fines and court costs.
